Harris James Associates Publishes India Economic Growth, A Closer Look

http://www.newswiretoday.com/news/88176/Harris_James_Associates_Publishes_India_Economic_Growth_A_Closer_Look/ The central government budget which set the tone for reducing fiscal deficit and an unexpected increase in the policy rate to rein in inflation has convinced the markets and economists that India is on its way to having a robust economic growth. Industrial output also continued to grow at a fast pace in January as companies produced more cars and cement. In the fiscal year 2011 that ends in March 2011, GDP growth of 8.5% is achievable. Long-term predictions for the southwest monsoons are expected to be normal, giving a boost to agricultural production and domestic demand.

Harris James Associates believe strongly in the concept of economic and market-led research. This "top down" approach is aimed at identifying the most vibrant and promising market sectors in which to direct its considerable industry and company research capabilities. We believe in the long term growth and development of the global economy as the world's people strive for a healthier and higher standard of living, particularly in those emerging economies that account for fully half of the global population. While there are many and varied stumbling blocks on the path of global economic and social progress, Harris James Associates recognizes that there are always sectors that exhibit superior potential in the dynamics of global development.

If you’re searching for the most profitable forms of investing that are available today, you should definitely investigate the possibilities of using Initial Public Offering (IPO) investments. A simple description of an IPO includes the fact that you’re buying a business that is just entering the open marketplace. The moment the IPO is released to the public is the first time anyone has the ability to buy the company openly, and this will surely give you a good idea on where the stock itself resides when it comes to the value of the offering. You can wage it is preparing for a large rise in its value because they are just releasing their stock to the public. Though most of the Initial Public Offering stocks skyrocket after they are first released, you must keep in mind that they are hardly a definite investment. Because of this, there are several factors you must definitely examine before you place your capital into this type of investment.

Innovative storm drain improvements, designed by Harris & Associates, have been instrumental in mitigating potential flood hazards during the winter rainy season for residents in the West Anaheim neighborhoods tributary to the Thornton/Brady Storm Drain system.
Prior to Harris’ involvement, the area was susceptible to severe flooding. The West Anaheim Neighborhood District Council voted to elevate this drainage issue to a top priority.
Harris’ solution for the Thornton Brady Storm Drain Improvement project called to maintain the existing Thornton/Brady drainage ditch as the historical drainage flow path and to construct a shallow reinforced concrete box (RCB) storm drain system, directly underneath the existing drainage ditch, to act as the primary underground drainage system during high storm events.  The primary goal was to better protect the affected residents from flooding. Key objectives of the project included the following:

626 F.2d 275: Fred G. Staub and Yvonne G. Staub, Appellants, v. G. H. Harris, James P. Harris, and G. H. Harris Associates

http://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/F2/626/275/158117/

This case requires us to decide whether a per capita tax levied by a Pennsylvania taxing district is a "debt" encompassed within the scope of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1692 et seq. (Supp. II 1978). The district court held that it was not, and dismissed the action brought under that statute for lack of jurisdiction.
2
Appellants Fred G. Staub and Yvonne G. Staub (hereinafter "Staubs"), are husband and wife living in New Oxford, Adams County, Pennsylvania. They are subject to per capita taxes in the following taxing districts in which they reside: Conewago Valley School District, Hamilton Township and the County of Adams. Moss & Associates begins fixing homes tainted by Chinese drywall Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/02/14/2090911/moss-associates-begins-fixing.html#ixzz1I4SREQkI

In her Lauderhill home, Eleanor Aguilar began experiencing horrendous migraines, insomnia and sinus infections.
Looking back, signs that something was wrong with her home were there from the beginning.
“When we closed in 2007 and did the walk through, I noticed a smell coming from the master closet on the second floor. The inspectors told me it was just a new house smell,” she said.
Two years later, Aguilar, 49, received a letter from developers Centerline stating her home may have been built with defective Chinese drywall. An inspection confirmed the suspicion.
Aguilar’s home is one of thousands nationally that was built with the defective, high-sulfur Chinese drywall, which is believed to corrode copper and other metals and cause electrical problems.
Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin, responsible for producing one-fifth of the tainted drywall, agreed in a federal court settlement to pay for rebuilding the insides of selected homes, relocation and attorney fees.
Fort Lauderdale-based construction firm Moss & Associates was selected to head the remediation that covers replacement of electrical wiring, fire safety equipment, home equipment and other fixtures damaged by the drywall.
The program, which started in January and initially included 300 South Florida homes, is now in the preliminary construction phase.
Aguilar’s entire home will be gutted to the concrete walls and rebuilt according to set standards over the next three months.
According to Knauf attorney Gregory Wallance of Kaye Scholer, as of Feb. 9, 115 work authorizations had been sent to homeowners, 34 work authorizations have been executed as the next step toward remediation and 97 permits have been issued.
The slow implementation of the program, “is not because of a lack of willingness from Moss,” said Victor Diaz, senior partner of V.M. Diaz & Partners and attorney for some affected homeowners.
“For some homeowners, this may be an attractive program, but others don’t find it as appealing as being compensated with monetary damages and completing the work themselves,” he said.
Aguilar, who temporarily relocated to Miami, said that getting her home back is all that matters. “I’m ecstatic. It could take years for monetary compensation to come; but with the remediation, I will have my house back now.”

ELECTIONS '11: 46TH WARD James Cappleman aims to make history

http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/gay/lesbian/news/ARTICLE.php?AID=31034
With its field of 11 candidates, the Feb. 22 vote for alderman of the 46th Ward, home to one of the city's largest contingents of LGBT residents, was long anticipated to be a nail-biter.
Even so, when the race's frontrunners heading to the April 5 runoff vote—James Cappleman (seeking to become the city council's second openly gay member) and Molly Phelan—emerged from the preliminary race separated by only five votes, it was clear the battle to succeed outgoing Alderman Helen Shiller would provide plenty of excitement for political junkies right up until its very end.
Weeks before the runoff election, the Windy City Times met with Cappleman, 58, at his campaign office. The office was, expectedly, abuzz with staffers, friends, constituents and even Cappleman's former rival—Emily Stewart—on this particular Friday afternoon.
Stewart, one of two other openly gay contenders in the original race, received the third-highest number of votes last month and is one of the six former candidates who have endorsed Cappleman's runoff campaign to date. None have endorsed Phelan.
The support of his former competitors, Cappleman said, is just one of many reasons he is feeling optimistic as his campaign gears up for its final stretch in his second attempt to grab the aldermanic post. He narrowly lost his 2007 race against Shiller.
"We're following [our plan] like science and we've done everything we needed to do to run a very solid campaign," Cappleman said.

First Eagle Leads Top U.S. Mutual Funds Sticking With Japan Amid Selloff

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-15/first-eagle-leads-top-u-s-mutual-funds-sticking-with-japan-amid-selloff.html
Some of the top U.S. mutual funds with the biggest allocations to Japan are sticking with their investments, saying it’s too early to assess the impact of the country’s worst earthquake on record.
“You have to ask what real value has been affected company by company, and it’s not easy getting that information in these circumstances,” Kimball Brooker of First Eagle Investment Management LLC in New York, who helps manage the $12.5 billion Overseas Fund, said yesterday in a telephone interview.
The fund had 29 percent of its holdings in Japan stocks as of Feb. 28, making it one of 12 funds with more than $500 million in assets and more than 25 percent invested in Japan, according to company information and data compiled by Bloomberg. Fidelity Investment’s $593 million Japan Fund, which is 98 percent invested in Japan, and the $994 million Pacific Basin Fund, with 37 percent, held the highest stakes in that group.
Investors fled Japanese stocks, sending the Nikkei 225 (NKY) Stock Average 16 percent lower since the start of the week, after the 9.0-magnitude temblor and subsequent tsunami led to what Prime Minister Naoto Kan called the country’s worst crisis since World War II. Millions remained without electricity or water following the quake, which may have killed 10,000.
“We are closely examining and evaluating developments in Japan and the potential impact on companies in our portfolio,” Ray Lewis, a spokesman for Brandes Investment Partners in San Diego, said in an e-mailed statement. “We remain committed to a long-term investment perspective.”

Biggest Losses

Brandes managed two funds among the top 12 U.S. funds investing in Japan. The $807 million Brandes Institutional International Equity Fund (BIIEX), with 33 percent in Japan, fell 2.7 percent yesterday. The $1.74 billion Columbia International Value Fund, owned by Minneapolis-based Ameriprise Financial Inc. (AMP) and run by Brandes, declined 2.6 percent. That fund had 32 percent allocated to Japan.
